Catria Agulto

Classification: Freshman

Major: Nursing

Position: Fundraising

Reason for running:

I decided to run for this position because Danielle and Sydney made it seem like it was a lot of fun and something I would be interested in. Also,  my mom has cooked me many popular Filipino dishes, so I feel like I would be able to introduce new recipes to the markets. And of course, the Filipino markets and preps we’re a lot of fun to be a part of!

Why she joined FSA:

I decided to join FSA because my brother, who is a part of UT FSA, suggested I join Texas States FSA. He explained how he made many lifelong friends throughout this organization and described the different activities that are included in FSA. Once I joined FSA, I knew that this organization was something that would definitely influence my life in positive aspects.

Victoria Brown

Classification: Freshman

Major: Mathematics with Teacher Certification

Position: Secretary

Reason for running:

I chose to run for secretary because I wanted to be more involved in FSA and see what happens behind the scenes.

Why she joined FSA:

I originally joined FSA as a way to continue dancing after high school by joining our Modern team. When I started attending the events it started to feel more like a family and I felt as though I had found my place here at TXST.

Christopher Dilport

Classification: Freshman

Major: Biology

Position: Sports Coordinator

Reason for running:

I want to run for this position because I am passionate about FSA, and especially passionate about the sports that we participate in. I have been involved in sports ever since I was young, including soccer, volleyball, football, etc. I believe I can make a great impact on the sports teams for FSA and I am determined to be the best we can be.

Why he joined FSA:

I joined FSA because of the people involved in FSA. Coming into college, I did not know many people. The people of FSA were very warm and welcoming, creating an amiable environment which made me feel very comfortable. In joining FSA, I was unsure of what it would be like. However, all the activities and events that were available made my time at FSA even more exciting, and I have created many memories with many people. Ultimately, joining FSA was one of the best decisions I have made coming into college, and it has made a huge impact on my college experience, so I hope to one day be a huge impact on FSA.

Brooke Finley

Classification: Junior

Major: Marketing

Position: Event Coordinator

Reason for running:

I love planning social gatherings. I can’t tell you the amount of hypothetical family trips and school field trips I have planned. I am a micro-manager which I am aware of has a negative connotation but when used properly is the best asset an event coordinator can have. I tend to think and plan things down to the tiniest details. My greatest high school accomplishment was planning my prom by myself. I did everything from getting the students together to vote on a theme to the final tear down after prom. Being able to create an event that others can enjoy and make memories at is one of my favorite things ever.

Why she joined FSA:

I joined FSA because after meeting some of the members I realized how important creating a friendly environment was to FSA and I appreciated how nice and inviting everyone was. I wanted to be part of the FSA family. I loved Pia’s culture lesson at the first meeting I attended and looked forward to them at every meeting after. I loved being able to learn about so many different cultures that I wasn’t around much before. After the first meeting I was hooked in and determined to be an active member in this organization.

Brianna Garza

Classification: Sophemore

Major: Journalism

Position: Public Relations

Reason for running:

I felt like this would help me get a head start into the more specific creative career path I want to take while also being able to spend more time with FSA and the members. I see this as an opportunity to grow as a person, be active with FSA on a in depth level behind the scenes, and be closer with the members.

Why she joined FSA:

I joined because I wanted something different since I had spent my whole school years committing to choir and singing. I originally joined because I was very interested in dancing (even though I'm not that good at it hah) and wanted to learn new things while bringing out that side of me that has always wanted to try dancing. Along the way I met a lot of amazing people and realized I loved the atmosphere in FSA and I wanted to be more involved in any way possible. I had a really great time and experience with everyone and my family so I would like to pass that onto the next school year!

Lucas Guajardo

Classification: Freshman

Major: Biology

Position: Event Coordinator

Reason for running:

FSA was one of the first organizations I became a part of at Texas State and everyone was so welcoming and friendly. I really felt at home. I enjoyed all the events that we had because I got to know everyone better and build closer relationships with people who I consider family now and I would love to be able to spread that warmth and sense of family to new and continuing members. I also love planning and organizing events. In highschool I was the team leader of the community service section of our organization, Student Leadership Institute, where my team and I planned many events that benefited the community around us.

Why he joined FSA:

I joined FSA because I was looking for a new place to call home. I love FSA and everyone in it and I really enjoy the feeling of being a part of something bigger than myself.

Carissa Jo

Classification: Freshman

Major: Criminal Justice

Position: Fundraising

Reason for running:

I enjoyed helping out at markets this past year and also had fun spreading different types of Filipino foods to Texas State.

Why she joined FSA:

I knew that FSA was a student organization that was close like a family, and I wanted to join to meet new people and to spread Filipino culture to others. And my sister was apart of this FSA and she made long lasting friendships and memories.

Claire Nguyen

Classification: Freshman

Major: Nursing

Position: Goodphil Chair

Reason for running:

I love FSA & wanted an opportunity to make a greater impact on the club itself. I knew that’s what I wanted to do but still be able to keep up with my major’s workload, so after going through the position options, I knew this one is fit for me. Also, my kuya is goodphil chair.

Why she joined FSA:

I was already interested in joining clubs so after asking my friends from hometown what I should look into, they recommended me to join FSA at TXST so, I did.

Vivian Nguyen

Reason for running:

I enjoy cinematography and photography. I also enjoy learning about graphic design. I want to be more active in the organization that has given me so much.

Why she joined FSA:

As a freshman, I had difficulty making and finding new friends. Through FSA, I was able to find my home away from home. This organization has become my safe haven where I am able to be around others without being judged for my race.

nico Nanez

Classification: Freshman

Major: Social Work

Position: Philanthropy

Reason for running:

I love volunteering, and since there was an officer position dedicated to volunteering, I took a gamble and said why not. I’m very involved in the organization and I want to make it enjoyable for next year's members, exactly how the officers this year did for me.

Why she joined FSA:

I joined FSA because of Danielle Monzales. We are childhood friends and she hyped it up, and made it seem like a very awesome organization. I’m grateful she introduced me to this organization, because I’ve made friends that have ended up being more like a second family.

Noy Phromarak

Major: Marketing

Position: Public Relations

Reason for running:

I enjoy taking a lot of pictures to capture memorable moments and I would like to say I take A LOT of photos for FSA!

Why she joined FSA:

I joined because FSA was one of the few asain organizations here at Texas State and I narrowed it down to FSA because there was a dance team and I enjoyed dancing, so I joined along with some friends.

alex tang

Classification: Super Junior

Major: Economics

Position: Sports Coordinator

Reason for running:

I am running for sports coordinator because I have been an athlete two years in a row and seen the state of FSA Sports. We have potential and being a competitive soccer player for the majority of my life, I believe I can push our athletes to have a competitive edge and reach their maximum potential as individual athletes. I would like to make improvements on how practices and games are run to maximize time efficiency and encourage coaches to implement a focused program.

Why she joined FSA:

I joined FSA to find familiarity in a diverse campus. Through FSA, I was able to find a comfort zone and made friends who allowed me to express myself and be myself. Through this organization, I was able to become an athlete again and play with others who share the same passion.

Ree llagas

Classification: Junior

Major: English and Political Science

Position: Culture Chiar

Reason for running:

I want to run for Culture Chair because I believe I have been incredibly privileged to have been raised with my culture. From my parents making traditional Filipino food for my school lunches, speaking the language whenever we are together, even to visiting the Philippines numerous times and learning about colonialist and revolutionist histories— I recognize that I lucked out in the opportunities I was afforded and I want to share what I know while also pushing myself to learn more. I am incredibly proud of my heritage and I always seek to honor my roots; I cannot think of a better way to do that than through educating others and myself about the culture and history of the Philippines.

Why she joined FSA:

I joined FSA because I knew there was only a very small percentage of an Asian population at Texas State and I sought to make relationships with other Filipino college students. I wanted to find individuals who were likely to be in the same position I was and dealing with similar situations of what it was like to be American with Filipino heritage and navigating college in the US for the first time, maybe even for the first time in your family. I wanted to find comfort and solidarity with other Filipinos and to have a space to share our experiences and our perspectives, not only amongst ourselves but with the rest of the population of the university. I am happy to have found incredible friends whether or not they be of any Filipino descent and I intend to give back to the organization that has provided with such a support system the best way I know how and that is by sharing my own knowledge, welcoming the experiences of others, and providing a platform to support FSA’s core goal of sharing the unique Filipino experience.

Deborah vidad

Classification: Junior

Major: Sociology

Position: Internal President

Reason for running:

I have been a part of FSA for two years now and I want to see it grow even more. Not only do I want to keep sharing the Filipino culture on campus, but I also want to spread Asian awareness in general throughout Texas. I believe I would be a great leader and can help FSA develop even further. FSA has given me laughter, sore muscles, a place to embrace my Filipino culture, unforgettable memories, and above all, a second family. I am running for internal president because I want to be able to give all these things (and more) to the future of FSA.

Why she joined FSA:

I joined FSA because I transferred to Texas State my sophomore year and wanted to meet new people. FSA was the perfect organization for me since it is an Asian organization at a school with little Asian representation. Even though I am Filipino, I never had other friends who understood my culture,  so I also joined because FSA truly upholds an important Filipino value, family.

Caleb ho

Classification: Junior

Major: Mass Communications

Position: Internal President

Reason for running:

I have been a part of FSA for three years and Event Coordinator for two of those years, and I strongly feel like I have the leadership experience to help FSA grow even more than it has from when I was a Freshman. FSA is like a second home to me and hopefully to all the other members, it has given me friends who I consider family, as well as experiences I had only dreamt about making before coming to college. As president I hope to be able to give members the chance to find their own paths through FSA and to share the bond our pamilya has with each other. Not only that, but to help spread Filipino awareness / Asian representation around campus. Being one of the few Asian organizations it feels like it is our duty to bring more representation, and we already do in some ways but there is always room for improvement and I would like to be a reason for that improvement.

Why he joined FSA:

I joined by going to my first social event and from there I met some amazing people and instantly clicked with them. It was a great way to make friends and also to show some of that Asian awareness! It was basically hitting two birds with one stone. Since then I have definitely made the most out of my time in FSA and I cannot wait to see what my last year has in store!

ashley do

Classification: Junior

Major: Health Science

Position: External President

Reason for running:

I’ve been sports coordinator for the past two years and I believe that it has given me enough leadership experience to take FSA even further. I want to further spread Filipino awareness throughout campus and throughout San Marcos. I want to be a representation for the Asian community. I want to collaborate with other student organizations on campus as well to build more connections for FSA. At the end of the day,  I would love to be able to give back to an organization that has given me so much.

Why she joined FSA:

I joined FSA because I was personally recruited by a previous officer, Liana Jo. I was excited that I could be a part of an organization filled with people that looked like me and that emphasized so much on Asian representation.  Along the way, I have made many great memories, gained life long friends, and great leadership skills.
